With the influence of the Novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, college teachers in the United States are facing the challenge of online courses. Among them, 70% of college teachers lack the experience of teaching online courses. In relation to this, on the one hand teachers need to learn to use new online teaching tools, on the other hand, they still need to focus on teaching methods to maintain the quality and effectiveness of online education.
On April 20th,2020, an online academic salon with the topic of pedagogy of online teacher education conducted by Professor Faridah Pawan from Indiana State University Bloomington School of Education was held. Professors and students from CTER of Beijing Normal University took part in the salon.
On the salon, Professor Faridah had a lively discussion with participated teachers and students about the definition of pedagogy, how do the tools align with what we know as effective in language teacher education, do we take advantage of the tools to promote what we value in teaching and are we using the medium and tools in ways that scaffold\support teacher\student growth and achievement.
Through the interactive discussion, this academic salon discussed with the participated teachers and students about how to balance the various challenges that higher education teachers are facing with the online courses.
