The importance of an educated population is well established. This overview course focuses on the role of education for human development and in a country's socioeconomic development. It deals in a systematic way with components of the link between education and development, such as literacy, pedagogy, learning, labor force participation, creative productivity, and the wider social effects. The policies and interventions for the effectiveness and efficiency of education systems, the importance of implementation, and the cultural contexts will be discussed. It would help to promote engagement in the policy dialogue and initiatives for equity, quality, and leadership in education and development, based on rigorous research evidence from developed and developing countries.
