内容简介:This talk reviews the basic old debates in educational research: what constitutes an explanation? What are the basic debates among contemporary research schools? Is social science knowledge accumulative? What is the implication for designing our own research projects? Using the fractal framework of Andrew Abbott, this talk first discusses the normal science approach of research design. Then this talk treats the incompatible worldview among different research traditions as heuristics for generating new ideas in educational research. Several commonly used heuristics are discussed along with examples.
